About Us

The California Acupuncture College was originally founded in 1978 in conjunction with the National Acupuncture Association in Los Angeles, California.  It was one of the first schools in the country to begin training students to become professional acupuncturists. After a number of years of inactivity, the CAC is proud to re-open its doors to again lead the profession of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine toward higher academic and professional standards. It is toward this goal that we have joined with Akamai University and function as one of the colleges under its university umbrella.

Akamai University is accredited by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC). Akamai has been designated as an ASIC Premier University for demonstrating several quality areas of strength and good practice. ASIC is a member of the British Quality Foundation (BQF), sits on the Quality Standards Group of UK NARIC, and is one of a number of international accrediting bodies listed in the international directory by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the USA and is a member of the CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG).

CAC continues its mission to integrate the principles of oriental medicine and its energetic concepts with the standards of Western Medicine.  Our vision is that by a continual melding of these medical systems that the highest level of health care can be achieved for the health and well-being of the entire planet.

This current program is designed to continue and refine the education of those graduates from existing Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs who have not achieved the doctoral degree level.  Completion of this program will award the Doctor of Oriental Medicine (OMD) degree to those graduates from recognized programs for the training of acupuncturists and oriental medicine practitioners in the US as well as other countries.

Our Approach

This doctoral program is designed for working professionals who want to increase their knowledge and understanding and advance their degree designation to a doctoral degree.  All courses are taught on-line where individual students can progress at their own speed.  The dissertation that is required is designed to teach research skills that will result in a publishable paper which will help further the scientific investigation of the field of Oriental Medicine.
